is there anyway to get credit card co. to reduce the debt you owe?

They won’t reduce what you already owe them, you are obligated for that amount since you received goods or services using their credit card in line with the contract you agreed to when you received the card.
The only thing they might possibly reduce is the percentage rate (APR) of the account….you would have to call and ask them to do this. It’s not unusual for a card company to honor such a request if your account has been in good standing and you’ve never defaulted or missed payments.
One thing I’ve learned, it never hurts to ask.
