I agree mostly with the libertarian viewpoint of minimal regulation and allowing people to take responsibility for their own lives. However, no one reads fine print on anything anymore. In courts, contracts are generally interpreted to represent what both parties INTENDED. If a CC contract hides important provisions with tricky language or superfine print, I think courts should be more proactive about dismissing them.
Im sick of WHINGING credit card holders about how its their bank’s fault that they are in debt. GET REAL. The holder bought stuff, the holder charged it, the holder is the only one responsible. Now if the banks give out “excessive” credit then they assume the risk of not being paid back. No taxpayer bailout should save them either. More regulation is not required – MORE INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBLILITY is required.
Credit Cards are like exploding faulty Microwaves or Ford Explorers. No one should get one, and they shouldn’t be allowed to sell them. If CC banks want to start selling responsible products, then bring it on. Til then, they must be stopped.
Another thing, the last 30 seconds was complete bullshit, speculation at best.
How are the credit card companies responsible, by allowing people to get 12 credit cards in the first place.
Regulate and educate.
